A woman’s wellness retreat designed to enhance the connection between body, mind, and spirit. Ocean Soul focuses on surfing, yoga, nutrition and wellness to achieve this connection and balance. Located in Seminyak on the Island of Bali, Indonesia.
When Georgie the lovely Australian woman who owns the retreat asked me to come check it out, I literally jumped at the chance and headed to Bali.
After a grueling 24 hours of travel I arrived back in Bali, the Island of the Gods. I was greeted at the airport by Wayan, who came with little treats to ease the pain of flying, cold lemon scented towels, alkalined water, and the most delicious protein and goji berry balls. This small touch of alkalined nourishment gave me the confidence to know that I was in for quite a treat at Ocean Soul Retreat.
We arrived at Casa Mateo home of Ocean Soul Retreat. What an incredible setting for a week of wellness and relaxation. Clean lines, open, space, and great energy. Every detail of the Villa encourages relaxation. My private master suite was fit for a Balinese Queen. It included a canopy bed, a delicious bathtub, and my favorite outdoor shower.
We began our wellness retreat with a Balinese blessing ceremony and a delicious nutritious meal. Each day began with breakfast and consisted of a combination of yoga, surfing, massage, and holistic treatments depending on your specific program.
One of the guiding principles of Ocean Soul Retreat is the belief in using whole foods to heal the body from the inside out. The menu is set by an expert wholefoods nutritionist and each meal is balanced with protein, healthy fats, good quality carbs, and locally sourced nutrient rich fruits and veggies. Each dish is more exciting, creative, and colorful then the last. The meals encourage a healthy relationship with food and strengthen the mind and body connection. Days begin with a delicious and energizing breakfast with creations from green smoothie bowls to healthy banana pancakes. Fresh juices, coffee, and teas are also available. Lunches were a bit hardier with lots of green and alkalizing options. Smoothies and light healthy snacks are provided throughout the day to keep your metabolism burning. Dinners were always quite a treat with green salads and interesting dishes such as fresh salmon and quinoa.
Yoga is one of the most important aspects of developing a spiritual practice. The physical and mental pieces help to clear stuck energy from the body allowing us to be happier, healthier people. Ocean Soul Retreat offers daily yoga classes in the most tranquil setting to allow students to truly connect mind, body, and soul. I absolutely loved the talented teachers and unique classes at the retreat. Each class is different and blends together various styles such as Vinyasa, Yin, and even a little Thai massage. Working with the teachers on such an intimate level allows you to really deepen or begin your own yoga practice.
As a surfer and ocean lover this was one of my favorite parts of Ocean Soul retreat. For me there is no stronger form of meditation then surfing. When I’m in the water I feel so completely connected to the universe, the ocean, and to my own body. During my stay I had the privilege of working with Carly, the resident surf coach. We surfed every morning of the retreat. I usually only surf with my boyfriend so I was feeling very anxious about surfing without his guidance. Carly made me feel very safe and comfortable. We went to different spots and waves each day depending on the tide and swell. We found a spot called Old Mans in Canguu that was absolutely perfect for my skill level. Here I caught some of the best waves of my life with Carly. I love that I gained the confidence to surf without my boyfriend and that I found new spots on the planet to surf. Whether you are a total beginner or an advanced surfer Carly will nurture your specific level. It is so important to challenge yourself both physically and emotionally leaving you with greater confidence and appreciation for your physical body.

My personal favorite was the traditional Balinese healing. I worked with Ibu Jeru, a local Balinese healer. On our fist session, she put her hand on my head and after a few moments said to me, “Jessie, you need to forgive your Mom for dying”. My mom passed away suddenly from a Brain Aneurysm a few years ago. Her words shook me to the core and I knew I was in the presence of an authentic healer. Over the next few days I worked with Ibu jeru and one of her colleagues to help remove the trauma and spirit from my body. It was an intense and heavy experience. Hours of crying, fear, and moments of true connection. Through the healings I feel that I have dealt with my grief. I feel that I have made a stronger mind and body connection and am more at peace with myself.
My week at Ocean Soul retreat was a perfect balance of yoga, surfing, healing, and relaxation. It was such a luxurious and indulgent experience. What made the retreat so special were the women who run it. I formed a strong connection and bond with each of the staff. They truly care about your own spiritual development and are there to support you however you need it.
I highly recommend pampering yourself for a week at Ocean Soul Retreat. You will return more at peace with yourself, feeling more grounded and connected.
